Key features

What’s the DOT identification number?

Each tyre has a DOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) identification number printed on the sidewall. This code is made up of numbers and letters. Four blocks make up this identification number:

a 2 to 3-character code identifying the factory that manufactured the tyre
a 2-character dimension code specific to the manufacturer
a manufacturing code specific to the manufacturer
a 4-character code identifying the year and week of production

For example, the following DOT code “DOT T7D3 1BH 3218” can be decoded as follows:

Manufacturing plant: T7 – the list of plant codes can be found on NHTSA
Size code: D3
Manufacturer’s code: 1BH
Year and week of production: 3218 – week 32 of 2018

How does it work ?

The DOT Recognition API transforms a photo of the DOT code on the tyre sidewall into information that can be used by an information system.

This API uses artificial intelligence (AI) functionalities, which can read black characters printed on a black background.

Compatible with mobile applications for easy use
Allows photos to be submitted from a mobile application with image guidance

Getting Started

Prerequisites

Minimum image height should be 800 pixels
Aspect ratio should be close to 2 (or 2.37)
Text height should be around 15% of image height
Orientation of image vs text should be as shown
Avoid photo of mobile/laptop screens

For accurate results, the image of tire sidewall should be clear with the DOT code properly visible, as shown next slide.

Authentication

The use of all our APIs is subject to the use of a user token. To obtain this token, it is necessary to authenticate by an API call.

The authentication allows to get the user token which will be requested in all the API calls.

When you register an app for any API product, a client id and client secret is created.

Client Id is treated as API Key and used to authenticate the consumer for subsequent API calls
